In 1981, after the publication of her biography of George Wythe, American Aristides (Rutherford, N.J.: Fairleigh Dickinson University Press), Imogene E. Brown donated her research to William & Mary Law School. The papers became intermingled with those of William & Mary legal history professor, William F. Swindler. In 1988, the W&M Law Library transferred Swinder's papers to the Earl Gregg Swem Library. Swem Library transferred Swindler's papers back to the Wolf Law Library in 2019 after the discovery of Brown's research. The law library processed the papers to discover items missing from Wythepedia.
Brown's papers consist mainly of photostats and copies of original documents and source materials located in other libraries and archives. Once the Brown papers could be reviewed, it became evident that Wythepedia researchers had already discovered many of the items Ms. Brown identified through her research. However, the files did contain more than 50 items undocumented in Wythepedia. To demonstrate the depth of Ms. Brown's research, this category includes all items found in the Brown papers, both previously known and unknown.
