Brown v. Maupin

Brown v. Maupin, Jefferson’s Memorandum Books 214 (1771),[1] was a case for slander involving a runaway enslaved person (Brown). George Wythe served as principal attorney with Thomas Jefferson assisting.

Jan. 10. William Brown (run away) v. Daniel Maupin (Albemarle). Action for slander to come on next ct. Appear for def. Send for spas. G. W. prin.[2]
