+ | The "Journal of the Meetings of the President & Masters of William & Mary's College" for the years 1729 through 1784 is preserved in the university archives. The years of George Wythe's tenure as Professor of Law and Police are covered from 1779 until 1784, where the minute book ends. Unfortunately, the journals for the years 1785 through 1816 have been lost, which would include Wythe's years as professor up until 1789
+ | |||
+ | There are 38 entries in which Wythe is listed as participating in the meetings of the professors and, in addition, two odd entries in the endpages concerning Wythe: a transcipt for an honorary diploma for Richard Paul Jodrell (1745–1831) from 1786; and an inventory of papers belonging to the Brafferton Estate, which Wythe and John Blair Jr. (1732–1800) were tasked with settling, in 1783.
+ | |||
+ | There were four other faculty members during Wythe's time as professor at William & Mary: James Madison (1749–1812), Professor of Natural Philosophy and Mathematics; James McClurg (1746–1823), Professor of Anatomy and Medicine from 1779 to 1784; Robert Andrews (c.1743–1804), Professor of Moral Philosophy, the Laws of Nature and of Nations and of the Fine Arts from 1777 until his death (taking over Mathematics from Madison in 1784); and Carlo Bellini (styled Charles Bellini, 1730–1804), Professor of Modern Languages from 1779–1803.<ref>J.A.C. The "Journal of the Meetings of the President & Masters of William & Mary's College" for the years 1729 through 1784 is preserved in the university archives.[1] The years of George Wythe's tenure as Professor of Law and Police are covered from 1779 until 1784, where the minute book ends. Unfortunately, the journals for the years 1785 through 1816 have been lost, which would include Wythe's years as professor up until 1789
There are 38 entries in which Wythe is listed as participating in the meetings of the professors and, in addition, two odd entries in the endpages concerning Wythe: a transcipt for an honorary diploma for Richard Paul Jodrell (1745–1831) from 1786; and an inventory of papers belonging to the Brafferton Estate, which Wythe and John Blair Jr. (1732–1800) were tasked with settling, in 1783.
There were four other faculty members during Wythe's time as professor at William & Mary: James Madison (1749–1812), Professor of Natural Philosophy and Mathematics; James McClurg (1746–1823), Professor of Anatomy and Medicine from 1779 to 1784; Robert Andrews (c.1743–1804), Professor of Moral Philosophy, the Laws of Nature and of Nations and of the Fine Arts from 1777 until his death (taking over Mathematics from Madison in 1784); and Carlo Bellini (styled Charles Bellini, 1730–1804), Professor of Modern Languages from 1779–1803.[2]
